Chiller Changeover at Children’s Hospital

Mechanical Movements had a busy weekend completing a chiller changeover project at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Located in Central London, this renowned hospital is the largest paediatric hospital in the UK, providing treatment to children with complex health issues.

Partial road closures were implemented before works could commence, ensuring critical access was available for emergency vehicles.

Using a 46-ton Challenger 3180 crane, we carefully removed 2 x 1600kg chillers from the roof chiller compound and replaced these with 2 x new chillers which we had previously delivered to site.

Prior to install, our skilled operatives fitted new steels within the plant room to support the new components. The chillers were positioned onto the new steel work and anti-vibration mounts applied to prevent vibration and unwanted noise travelling through the building.

We were also required to remove a 600kg plate heat exchanger from a basement plant room and our experienced lifting specialists utilised our unique stair climber to fulfil this request.

Works were successfully delivered on time and no disruption was caused to the staff or patients within the hospital.
