Data Centre Chiller Replacement in Slough
Last weekend, the Mechanical Movements team successfully completed the removal and replacement of two chillers at a data centre in Slough. The project involved removing the two redundant chillers, transporting them off-site, and installing two new units. To ensure proper fitment, steelwork alterations and fabrications were also carried out to support the new anti-vibration mounts for the updated chillers.
The operation was carried out using a 200-tonne mobile crane, working within a 35-meter radius, along with a bespoke lifting rig designed specifically to achieve an impressive 16-point lift. This setup was used to remove the 16-tonne chillers and install the new 13-tonne units. This marks the first phase of the project, with a total of 18 new chillers scheduled for installation as part of the full system replacement.
